The road to the Taiwanese version of C-22 reproduction
Whether in the United States or in the international high-end audio industry, McIntosh is indeed worthy of the name of legend. The reason why it has become a legend is not only because of its seniority (old brand) or history (glorious past), but also because of its product development strength and timeless original technology. The classic McIntosh tube preamplifier may be traced back to 1950; as for the C22 tube preamplifier, it has to start from 1963. McIntosh started its business in 1949, and released its first tube preamplifier AE1 in 1950, and its first stereo tube preamplifier C20 in 1959. Later, there was a stereo tube preamplifier C11 that only served for three years. As for the C22 prototype, it was launched in 1963, and its best partner, the MC275 stereo tube power amplifier, was also launched at the same time. The tube preamplifier, which is regarded as a classic, has become a classic and is now sold again. He is not the first, nor the last, and he has the ability to stick to the styling style of his family products for decades, even down to the entry-level products for audiophiles, with a unified style and a fusion of the old and the new. Such a legend, looking at the audio industry, there is only this McIntosh!
The Taiwan version of the MC275 reproduced by our Taiwan team was a great success after it was launched. "Excellent quality, good sound and affordable price" broke the original high price of 275, which made the Taiwan team once again spare no expense to make the best reproduction of the C-22 tube preamplifier. After more than 3 years of research and development and debugging, it was finally launched. The C-22 adopted the style of the MC preamplifier in the 1960s and 1970s at that time, and was also loyal to the tone setting, which is very useful in some cases: C22 adopts the principle of the famous C70, both the circuit and the parts are a one-to-one reproduction of the original McIntosh C22 tube preamplifier. In addition, the Taiwan team uses proprietary AIR-PIRE technology to improve the heat dispersion tube, thereby benefiting the life of the tube. These are mounted on a ceramic bracket with gold-plated contacts to protect them from oxidation. As for the proprietary Sentinel Monitor technology, it replaces the previous POWERGARD, which allows continuous analysis of the output current and shuts down the amplifier when it exceeds a certain limit to maintain the life of the equipment. The output voltage is the famous American R-ROCK voltage, which is a sophisticated and heavier power supply, voltage stabilization, and a more accurate and stable step-down voltage. The power cord has been changed from the direct connection with the machine stem of the previous two generations to a fever pattern with flexible line change. The addition of an electromagnetic input switch provides reliable, noise-free, and distortion-free operation, with rich and natural sound and strong dynamics! It uses 6 12AT7 tubes connected to an oversized power supply to generate a perfectly stable current. The 12AT7 small tube has a vicious and pleasant sound, and is excellent in all aspects and very natural: both the human voice and the instrument have perfect characteristics, and all the original fever parts do not affect the distortion of many amplifiers using semiconductors. The C-22 is close to the ability of a full symphony orchestra or a large opera singer. Judging from the replica circuit and sound, the Taiwan team is fully capable. This is a very attractive sound. This price and sound quality are another classic of Gao Lefeng after the 275!
